The Board regulates the prices of gasoline and diesel sold in Nova Scotia. This includes deciding:

  • how the province is geographically divided into fuel-pricing zones
  • the calculation of fixed wholesale prices
  • the minimum and maximum retail mark-ups

These responsibilities were assigned to the Board under the Petroleum Products Pricing Act and its regulations on October 1, 2009. Before then, the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations set fuel prices. The Board held a major hearing on fuel pricing in 2006 and released its decision later that year.
